The Bible and Astronomy

The Bible contains many references to the heavens.
Here are some of my favorites:

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. – Genesis 1:1

You alone are the Lord. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you. – Nehemiah 9:6

When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? – Psalms 8:3-4

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. – Psalms 19:1

By the word of the Lord were the heavens made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth. – Psalms 33:6

In your light we see light. – Psalm 36:9

The heavens proclaim his righteousness. – Psalms 97:6

In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. – Psalms 102:25

Who can proclaim the mighty acts of the Lord or fully declare his praise? – Psalms 106:2

Let them praise the name of the Lord, for his name alone is exalted; his splendor is above the earth and the heavens. – Psalms 148:13

It is the glory of God to conceal a matter; to search out a matter is the glory of kings. – Proverbs 25:2

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end. – Ecclesiastes 3:11-12

Much dreaming and many words are meaningless. Therefore stand in awe of God. – Ecclesiastes 5:7

“To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal?” says the Holy One. Lift your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one, and calls them each by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing. – Isaiah 40:25-26

I am the LORD, who has made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens, who spread out the earth by myself . . . – Isaiah 44:24

It is I who made the earth and created mankind upon it. My own hands stretched out the heavens; I marshaled their starry hosts. – Isaiah 45:12

My own hand laid the foundations of the earth, and my right hand spread out the heavens. – Isaiah 458:13

Lift up your eyes to the heavens, look at the earth beneath; the heavens will vanish like smoke, the earth will wear out like a garment and its inhabitants die like flies. But my salvation will last forever, my righteousness will never fail. – Isaiah 51:6

As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. – Isaiah 55:9

But God made the earth by his power; he founded the world by his wisdom and stretched out the heavens by his understanding. – Jeremiah 10:12

Ah, Sovereign LORD, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you. – Jeremiah 32:17

“This is what the Lord says, he who made the earth, the LORD who formed it and established it–the LORD is his name: ‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.'” – Jeremiah 33:2-4

. . . so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe. – Philippians 2:15-16

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. – James 1:7

Then I saw another angel flying in midair, and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth-to every nation, tribe, language and people. He said in a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water.” – Revelation 14:67
